“At its essence, style is a complicated, endlessly fascinating human capacity. It is our spirit and what we think, our creativity, our individual way of being, and our intention for our clothes. To nurture a meaningful relationship with fashion, our task is to understand style, to hone it, to carefully craft it and make it our own.”
— NADINE FARAG
Finding (and refining) personal style can be a struggle; we’re the first to admit it. Besides the fact that it’s ever evolving, we’re sure you also appreciate a handful of different styles. Regardless of what life throws at us, it’s important to be able to adapt while still maintaining a style that is all our own.
And why exactly is this important? The impact of personal style goes far beyond making a good first impression; great style is also about approaching each day with confidence, and the ability to feel legitimately beautiful in what we are wearing. Believe it or not, the right wardrobe can make a difference in that department.
In terms of your wardrobe, we want you to really know what you like, understand what looks good on you, and how to shop. No matter where you are on your path to mastering your personal take on fashion, there are certain actions you can follow to hone in on it.So when you find the right piece to add to your closet you exclaim, “This is so me!“
Here are 6 steps to help you define your style, love your wardrobe, and move forward with your fashion choices more confidently!
1. Know Your Body Type
Knowing your body type is probably where everything starts. No, not because a body type dictates what you should wear, but because you know what kind of clothes would look naturally good on you. It’s more like identifying your strengths and building on them.
2. Scan Your Wardrobe，clean up & clean out
Take a good, long look at your closet and the pieces you already own. Toss what you haven’t worn in the last year so you can start fresh. All of them have stories to tell, and needless to say, the most repeated clothes point towards the style you prefer.@loveshackfancy
3.Gather Your Looks，Put a Label on It and Snap the Winners
Go for a little walk down the memory lane, and make a folder with pictures from the past – photos of yourself that you like the most, dresses you often wear, etc. Take a second pass at your inspiration photos, look beyond the names, and focus on the outfits. Pick a few words to describe the vibe of the looks. Settle on a handful of words that feel true to your style, and write them down for future reference, as they will help you clarify and define your look.Snap a quick picture for future reference. These are the outfits that epitomize your true personal style and should serve as inspiration for spin-off outfits.
4.Who is Your Style Icon？What Inspires You?
We all have an innate affinity towards a particular style, sometimes we kind of know it, and sometimes we need to hear it from someone – either way, think about it.
Is there something people compliment you on? Whether it’s your amazing footwear game or your ability to style dresses like no one else, wearing clothes that play up your best style strengths will always look stylish, no matter what is currently trending.
But remember that you can have great admiration for a designer, a trend, or a clothing item, but not wear it yourself. Some things are better appreciated from afar.@jesschamilton
5.Choose a Signature piece and pick your favorite brands
Audrey Hepburn had her cropped pants and ballet flats, Jackie O. had her oversize sunglasses, and you could choose one object as your own personalized piece too. More over, foucus the brands that make you feel comfortable or confident.Trust your instincts, and wear what makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
She likes the puff sleeves so much and feels like she is back in the 19th century European court.
The last step in cultivating your personal style is to get creative. After finding what is right for you, and makes you feel special, there’s room for experimentation. Discovering your personal style doesn’t mean that your wardrobe is now frozen in time and can never change! We, as humans, are always changing and so too will our style, but with a better understanding of who we are as a whole. Aside from huge life events, we grow in small, nuanced ways.
“Our wardrobes can grow with us, but our style remains the same at its core. Your style is an extension of you. Let it be.”
